Intake 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to The Harlington and Sundon Academy Trust

I am delighted to be able to warmly welcome you and your child to The Harlington and Sundon Academy Trust. Our Academy is a partnership of two schools. We work with the community, trustees, staff and parents to create a safe and happy environment where every child achieves their maximum potential.

Our school is currently responding to the Coronavirus pandemic and as such, our welcome and transition process will be different to previous years. However, we are committed to make your child’s entry into our school smooth, supportive and successful. I look forward to getting to know you and your child.

Our school has extremely positive relationships with children, parents and all members of our community and we look forward to building this relationship with you. By working together, we can provide firm foundations for an enjoyable and ambitious learning journey for your child and working in partnership to support and nurture your child’s experiences and education over the coming years.

The Harlington and Sundon Academy Trust strives to offer a curriculum that gives children the best possible start to their education by developing their independence, curiosity, imagination and desire to learn; we want children to leave our school with a collection of memorable learning experiences. The Academy endeavours to provide a stimulating learning environment, offering a variety of high quality and exciting learning opportunities and experiences within a broad and balanced curriculum. The curriculum promotes our common values whilst recognising and valuing our differences within school and the wider community.

Administration

New pupils will receive administration forms and consent forms by email from Mrs Clarke, our Office Manager.  The contact forms are required so that we can add your child to the school administration system. Please complete and return these as soon as possible.

Current nursery pupils will receive administration forms in their book bags on Friday. Please complete and return these as soon as possible.

Further information on the Early Years Unit will be added to our school website for you to view on line.

At present we are unable to invite parents into school for our new Intake evening. However, our Early Years team have created a presentation for you which gives lots of information about starting Reception and preparing your child for school. There will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have. Our Early Years Teacher will discuss the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum as well as aspects of teaching, learning and assessment. Invitation link to be sent out separately nearer the date.

Thursday 24th June 2021, 9.30 to 11.30 a.m ‘Stay and Play’ sessions for new Reception children

You and your child will be invited to attend this session. This is an exciting opportunity for you and your child to meet your child’s teacher and see their classroom.

Due to covid restrictions we can only have one parent attend this session. This session is subject to Government guidelines following the Governments ‘Road Map.’ If we are unable to have you and your child into school on this date then we will offer Teacher contact phone calls- see below.

Teacher Contact (For new pupils only)

Our Reception Teachers look forward to meeting you all and giving your child a positive start to life in our school. If the Government Road map does not allow visits into school on Thursday 24th June, then your child’s class teacher will be contacting parents by telephone for a 5 to 10 minute call during the daytime. These calls are planned to take place over the following two weeks from 24th June onwards. Following our welcome to Reception presentation you may have thoughts or questions you would like to discuss with your child’s class teacher. This will give you an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

Supporting Transition

Ensuring a supportive transition for your child is our absolute priority. In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, we have made some changes to our usual procedures. We continue to follow guidance from the DfE and Local Authority and rest assured the safety and well-being of staff and children are our key priority however, please be aware that any plans may be subject to change. Our proposed transition procedures are as follows:

  • Staggered Intake to Reception
  • Monday 6th September 2021. Our Current ‘N2’ children who already attend our Nursery start school as Reception
  • Tuesday 7th September 2021 – New Reception children start school.

We have planned a structured programme to support your child as they begin their journey into school. We also recognise that children may have had a significant period not in an educational setting due to previous lockdowns and we want to make this special time starting Reception both exciting for your child and as seamless as possible. We are grateful for your support in this. These dates and timings remain subject to change dependent on the easing of lockdown measures and the progression of Covid-19. We will communicate any changes to you.

Your sincerely
Mrs C White
Head Teacher
