Our School

Sundon Lower School is a small village school for boys and girls between 2 years 9 months and nine years.  The school is friendly and caring, providing a happy and stimulating environment for children to feel safe and secure with an opportunity to learn within a rich and exciting curriculum.  We aim to promote acceptance and understanding, celebrate diverse beliefs and cultures and provide equal opportunities for all.

The school is situated in beautiful grounds with pleasant rural views surrounded by gentle rolling hills.  Sundon Lower School was built in 1847; within the local community many have a story to tell about ‘days at the local village school’.  Log Books from 1847 to 1938 were archived in 1953.  However, looking through a Log Book of ‘Sundon Council Mixed School’ from 1938 to 1975 highlighted some interesting entries.  February 14, 1939 the school was closed for the opening ceremony of the Luton and Dunstable Hospital performed by Queen Mary. June 1939, letter sent asking  parents to allow pupils to bring gas masks to school for the purpose of instruction, followed by letters relating to Air Raid Precautions in Schools and London children being evacuated to Sundon in the event of war. June 1975, school closed, used as a Polling Station for Common Market Referendum.

Education is a partnership, and the school together with the parents encourage our children to become independent and to work to the best of their ability and to achieve the highest standards of which they are capable.  Our aim is to ensure that we offer the best for every child.

Sundon Lower was pleased to convert to an Academy school on 1st April, 2013 along with its partner school Harlington Lower School.  The schools share the same Headteacher and the same Board of Trustees, both are determined to sustain and enhance the excellent provision offered on the two school sites.

Sundon Lower School has a Nursery for children to start during the term that they are three years.  As the Nursery children are happy and comfortable in an environment they know well, transition into Reception is usually smooth and seamless.

At Sundon Lower School, we strive to continue to move forward and to adapt and change with the times in order to meet the needs of our parents and children.  We welcome you to our school.
